Not one but two Shoreline of Infinity story writing opportunities.

1. Prize for Speculative Fiction

We’ve teamed up with CYMERA – Scotland’s Festival of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Writing to create a short story competition for unpublished Scotland-based writers:

“Nothing inspires us more than the place where we live, or where we come from. Consequently we have chosen “Scotland” as the theme of our inaugural award. We hope this leaves lots of room for your imagination – we just ask that your story has at least one of the elements of the festival, namely: science fiction, fantasy and horror, and is speculative.”

There are two categories:  14-17 year olds and 18 and above. The winning stories will be published in Shoreline of Infinity 15, to be released at Cymera on 7th June.

The winners will each receive a prize of £50 plus publication fee. They will also receive a complimentary ticket to a Cymera writing workshop of their choice.

The two runner-ups in each category will receive free tickets to two festival events of their choice.

We will also celebrate our competition and its winners in a special event during the festival, where the winning stories will be read out by professional actors.

2. Come on you writers, you seers of visions, send us your stories and shine!

For this call we are emphasising our ongoing search for stories from around the world, from different cultures, different viewpoints — perspectives that are new to us.

Wherever you are on this planet (or elsewhere? we can hope), if you’ve got a stunning science fictional or speculative tale which pushes the imagination onwards and outwards, we want to see it. We want to welcome it, give it a place to be.

Open to all, unpublished or published writers.

Translated stories are warmly welcomed if not published in English.
