UPDATE: We are delighted to announce that Eric Brown and Pippa Goldschmidt have accepted our invitation to judge the winning entries for our Flash Fiction Competition.

Eric Brown has a long list of science fiction books to his name. He won the British Science Fiction Award twice for his short stories, and his novel Helix Wars was shortlisted for the 2012 Philip K. Dick award.

His latest releases are Murder Take Three and Binary System. He writes a regular science fiction review column for the Guardian newspaper and lives in Cockburnspath, Scotland. His website can be found at: www.ericbrown.co.uk

Pippa Goldschmidt is the author of the novel The Falling Sky and the short story collection The Need for Better Regulation of Outer Space. In 2016, she was a winner of the MRC Suffrage Science award and her poem ‘Physics for unwary students’ was chosen to be one of the Scottish Poetry Library’s Best Scottish Poems.

Visible from the Shoreline of Infinity Beach Hut HQ are these landscapes illustrated by Becca McCall and Siobhan McDonald. Let these illustrations – singly or together – inspire you to create a story. We’re looking for flash fiction, which we’re defining as a maximum of 1,000 words.

Just remember, Shoreline of Infinity is a science fiction(ish) magazine, and your story must be science-fictional.

Prizes: £40 for the winning story plus 1 year digital subscription to Shoreline of Infinity. Two runners-up will receive 1 year digital subscription to Shoreline of Infinity.

The top three stories will be published in Shoreline of Infinity –All three finalists will receive a print copy of this edition.

Also

The best stories submitted will be published in 2018 in an anthology, and each contributor will receive a digital copy and a pro-rata share of the royalties.

The Details

Maximum 1,000 words.

Maximum 2 (two) stories per submitter (if you exceed that you will be disqualified).

Deadline for entries: midnight (UK time) 30th September 2017.

There’s no entry fee but cunningly, you will be asked to enter a secret code word obtainable only from reading issue 8 of Shoreline of Infinity: 

you will be asked to enter the second word of the second paragraph of a randomly selected story in Issue 8 when you submit a story through the link below.
